 I'm a Virginia Beach Local, and have been creating art my entire life. Ever since I could pick up a crayon I would draw what I could see. Holding a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts with a Double Concentration in Painting and photography, I studied at Barton College in North Carolina and, after graduating, I spent some time in Italy studying Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. Upon returning, I received a teaching position in a rural North Carolina County at a High School where I taught Art I-IV, 9-12th grades. Shortly after I attended a Richmond Tattoo Convention, all my goals and dreams were redirected towards tattooing. I continued teaching for three more years and, by the fourth, I was ready to leave and tattoo full time. Punk rock/metal music, the beach, horror movies, and fine arts have major influences in my artwork. I still get excited for every tattoo I do and to be working with experienced tattooists of varying styles in an artistically driven atmosphere. I’m ready to work hard and continue to grow as an artist, still creating in other mediums. I believe in dynamic compositions and high contrast imagery following the elements and principles of fine arts. Oil painting is amazing fun, but I love watercolor, mixed media, charcoal, prismacolor, or even just red pencil. I feel as though I have been driven towards art and creation since I can remember. People would always say “Look at Marshall he loves to paint”, which is true, but the end result is always where the real satisfaction comes from. In tattooing, the satisfaction is not just mine. It also belongs to the collector and everyone that appreciates art as well. I spend my free time with my girlfriend Laura watching movies, reading books, cooking good food, and relaxing. I love my family and have the best friends I could ask for. I appreciate every day as an artist living by self expression and helping people do the same and love trying to make tattoos more acceptable in the workplace. I believe the higher the quality of the work, the more acceptable the tattoo becomes even from an outsiders perspective. Art is everything. Every tangible object you come in contact with was designed or created by someone on an artistic level, whether organic or mechanical in appearance. These things around us including media, television, internet, music and art all influence our personalities and contribute to who we are. I believe people with these ideas applied permanently to their skin have a real passion for something. I like being the one who interprets the idea in a dynamic presentation with the technical ability to apply it to skin and I am stoked at the opportunity to work with everyone at Studio Evolve in a modern tattooing environment |
